AYS values alignment and encourages the use of props in each class. We provide bolsters, 2 blocks, 1 strap, and a blanket for every student for any class. You are welcome to bring your own as well!
-
In the parking lot! AYS has ~20 parking spots available in the parking lot. Please do not park at Taylor’d BBQ. You may park on Brown Pl for up to 75 minutes - this is a residential street. Please be mindful of your speed while leaving the studio as this neighborhood is active with children, dogs, and runners!

Nope. Please come as you are. AYS does not label classes by difficulty level. This is because we believe in objective yoga teachings, not making claims that something is “hard”. We welcome beginners with encouragement. Having no experience should not prevent you from coming to a yoga class. Every AYS instructor will implement modifications and extensions during each class. You should choose a class based on what “sounds good” for your body, that day and of course what will be convenient to your schedule.

Yes - AYS has a water dispenser with filtered water available at all times. Please bring a reusable water bottle to fill during your time at the studio. Cups are available but at limited use as AYS strives to maintain a sustainable practice within the daily operations. We also have complimentary snacks at all times.

No. Anurati Yoga is Decatur/Avondale’s ONLY multi-room yoga studio that is non-heated. You may break a sweat, but not because the room temperature is designed to do so.
In addition, one of the three indoor yoga rooms at AYS has a garage door as it’s fourth wall. This is commonly referred to as the “Vine Room”. Rarely, do we open it.

AYS required every instructor to hold a minimum of a 200+ Yoga Certification from a legitimate and reputable training facility. All yoga instructors at AYS are employees, NOT contracted workers. This way, AYS can provide more to the employees that make it possible. It is common that instructors have additional experiences that add to the collaborative efforts that AYS which ultimately provides members with authentic yoga experiences - not a scripted one.

Gym Night is for everyone and anyone! Typically, a workout sequence is written on “the board” and a casual demonstration is provided as you get settled. The intention of each workout is to work the full body and create intervals within your heart rate. Yet, some folks use this time to practice other gym goals, have access to the equipment for their physical therapy homework, and simply enjoy the comradery during this planned gym time. Available in the gym (we are always adding new things so consider this list in need of updating!)
Squat rack, plates, pulley system, YBells (kettlebells), dumbbells, wall balls, weighted balls (soft/small), slam ball, jump ropes, rope-less jump ropes, agility ladders, sliders, variety of resistance bands, cushioned mats, padding flooring, variety of benches (adjustable and non), stop watches, dry boards to track goal progress, hand grippers, neck guards, back belts, and weight guards are available for use during gym night (and always adding more)!

All Youth yoga classes are taught by a tenured Montessori teacher, former school teachers, or working mothers. AYS strives to be the example for youth’s yoga in the community by offering purposeful yoga class session DURING adult class times, so that more children and families can experience the benefits. Instead of focusing on the playful part of “kids yoga” - AYS chooses to educate about bones, muscles, real names of yoga poses, and how breathing, kindness, and self-care go a long way.
